can anyone please help me understand the stacking commands

stack set slot 1 saved-slot 2

will this command set the slot no. to 1 from 2 or 2 to 1.

I have got confused after reading some alcatel documents.

The following scenario has confused me:

-> show stack topology
Link A Link A Link B Link B
NI Role State Saved Link A Remote Remote Link B Remote Remote
Slot State NI Port State NI Port
----+-----------+--------+------+-------+-------+-------+-------+-------+-------
4 IDLE RUNNING 4 UP 5 StackB UP 3 StackA
5 IDLE RUNNING 5 UP 1001 StackB UP 4 StackA
1001 PASS-THRU DUP-SLOT 2 UP 2 StackB UP 5 StackA
2 SECONDARY RUNNING 2 UP 1003 StackB UP 1001 StackA
1003 PASS-THRU DUP-SLOT 2 UP 1002 StackB UP 2 StackA
1002 PASS-THRU DUP-SLOT 2 UP 1 StackB UP 1003 StackA
1 PRIMARY RUNNING 1 UP 3 StackB UP 1002 StackA
3 IDLE RUNNING 3 UP 4 StackB UP 1 StackA

to correct the above thing the following commands were written:

-> stack set slot 4 saved-slot 1
-> stack set slot 5 saved-slot 2
-> stack set slot 1001 saved-slot 3
-> stack set slot 2 saved-slot 4
-> stack set slot 1003 saved-slot 5
-> stack set slot 1002 saved-slot 6
-> stack set slot 1 saved-slot 7
-> stack set slot 3 saved-slot 8
-> reload all

Are these commands right ?

Yes, you're good.

What the command does it take what the NI is showing and assigns it a number
1001 would mean the number on front is flashing and is not set as a stack

I would recommend a reload working no rollback-timeout instead of reload all
Then once it comes up, write memory flash-synchro

After the first reload check that your config matches your physical switches (little is more error prone than having the built-in switches numbered 1,2,5,4,6,3)
Otherwise you are right.. if working and certified are identical reload all should do as well.

if it is only one switch to change a
"stack set slot 1001 saved slot 5 reload"
is fine. in your case your renumber everything so go ahead..
