Im working on a laptop for one of my co-workers who manages the Alcatel network at our site. He has the OmniVista 4760 installed on his laptop but he gets this error when trying to connect. I searched on here and found it might be the java which is the one that came with the cd. Or it might be windows firewall but that is turned off.
We have reimaged the laptop and reinstalled the software a couple times.
Any ideas? we have 3 other laptops (different models) that all work.

Your colleague has OV4760 client or server installed on his laptop?
Did you managed the hosts file from Windows directry with OV ip and name of the server?

Re: Impossible to connect to Comserver in asynchronus mode
We're having the same problem with a single computer connecting to the 4760 (my computer, of course), with the same error message displayed, after about 45 seconds of trying to connect. Windows Firewall is turned off and disabled, have rebooted and cleared all caches many times.
Since this problem just started a few days ago, at first I thought it may have been a few recent Windows Updates (running XP Pro w/Service Pack 3), but I've uninstalled all Windows updates that were applied within the last month, and I'm still having the same problem.
Another odd thing - this behavior is occuring in both Internet Explorer (IE8) or Firefox (v3.5.4), when I was previously able to get in just fine with both browsers. The only thing I could think of that was common between the two browsers was the Java Runtime Environment, installed directly from the 4760 home page. I uninstalled the JRE, rebooted, then reinstalled it, same problem. I tried accessing the system in both browsers in Safe Mode/all add-ons disabled, exact same result.
I'm hesitant to contact Alcatel about this since another admin's computer can access the 4760 just fine, and he has literally the exact same configuration as I, right down to the recent Windows updates.
Anyone have any ideas about this?
