Domain Identifier Question/Help/Frustration

I am trying to supervise sets that reside in different nodes, but it seems I am unable to do so because the Domain ID is distinctive for each node . What other purpose does the Domian ID serve?

When I first started building sets I always left that parameter at 0. I was later told that all my Domian ID's needed to match the node number which they reside in. What would be the reasoning behind having the Domian ID match the Node number?

As far i can remenber(when i was using the A4730i), the domain id is used to create a sort of management zone. If your configuration tool is configured with a certain domain id, you'll only be able to configure users wich are in the same domain id etc ...

This was for multi society installation.

In classic installation you don't have to change this parameter.

Does it works, if you put the supervised sets in the same domain ?

Hi,
The field "Identifier of Domain" under user's is only to control the access trougth 4760. 4760 managers can only access user's that match's is domain.
Nothing to do with node nbr.

So I should not be concerned about changing all my users back to zero from their distinctive node numbers assigned in the Domain ID field?

And yes it does work if the users are in zero, but there was some reason (which I can not remember) why we instructed to change the Domain ID field to match the node number that user resides in.

Is there some documentation I could refer to that defines what exactly the Domain ID is and what purposes it serves?

Identifier of Domain
This attribute defines the domain that the user belongs to.
Domains can only be used from NMC management systems.
They are used to distinguish between departments or companies installed on the same 4400. Each manager can only access users corresponding to his domain (see the object ACCESS CONTROL).


I believe you can switch all of them back to 0.
Make a test with 1 user first, and see if once it's back to 0, you still have the programmed keys, voicemail, network.. basic stuff.. I remember your site was build like that, no clue why..

I built a few sets in Domian ID zero and it seems I still have all my basic features. I need to double check calls from that set are being accounted for by 4760.

When I tried to supervise sets from another node with the same Domain ID 0,I got a weird error message that I will have to post up on Monday.

The error message I get when trying to supervise an extension from another node is "Directory Number Complexity Limitation"

Can anyone shed some light on what that error means and how I can go about correcting it?

Does the number of the distant person appear in the Prefix plan???? If yep are you trying to do the change of the supervision on the local set or the distant extn ???

Yes the number(s) I want to supervise do appear in my prefix plan.

seems to be working so far, I can supervise sets across nodes as long as the number is in the prefix dialing plan and both sets are in the same domain ID.

Can I use voicemail supervision keys to check VM from a remote node?
