Stacking question

Post by Engan »

Hi,

In our environment, I have 30+ OS6450-U24 as the distribution layer running ERP. Some of these have 22-23 access switches connected, which means I need to expand with one more distribution switch. I can either do this the easy way by just adding one more switch into the ERP ring or by stacking them.

Stacking would make more sense in our environment and the way we autoprovision our access switches.

How is this possible in live environment with minimum downtime? I have extra switches with the same software.

Is this the way to do it?

shutdown switch
insert stacking module card and connect cable to new switch and turn on both switches
-> stack set slot 1 saved-slot 2 reload // on the existing switch

yes, this will be the best way.
But do not do any config at the existing switch - it should still be the slot 1.
The new switch will be slot 2. So you can use the slot-command there.
Very important: The old one (slot 1) needs a longer uptime than the new one (slot 2) during the connection.
So power on it direct after the module inserting. Than reload the new one and connect it during the reboot to slot 1.
