Letter in front of calling number.

Post by Kbregu »

Hello,

We have an OXE R.8 connected to provider through T2.
When we receive international calls we see a letter A in front of the calling number and in case we need to call back we cannot because of the letter.
This happens only with incoming international calls. Local land line or GSM display fine.
Any ideas where this letter is coming from.

Thank you

You can manage Translator/ Ext. callback translation - add string Basic number A, delete 1, add - TG/ARS prefix.
A - for international, B - for private calls - with letter and Ext. callback translation - you can manage callback more exactly (f.e. select specific TG for international or private calls).

If you not need letter - System/ Other system/ External signalling param - change item "Type of number Unknown used"

To answer your question more clearly, ISDN has a field called type of number or TON, which allows the carrier to, in essence identiy the number format of the calling party. Some examples are subsrciber, national and international. If the carrier uses this feature (not all do) and marks a call as international then the OXE recognises this and inserts an A into the caller ID.

You can then manage the external call back translator to put in place the access code you would then dial to access international numbers.

So for example your in the UK and receive a call from Australia, caller ID is 61299991234, carrier marks it as international in TON. On your phone, if not managed specifically with the call back translator it will display as 9A61299991234 Assuming the call back translator has a default entry to insert 9 onto all calls which is the normal code to access a line in the UK. You can then manage international call specifically in call back translater using basic number A, to manipule the number to insert 9 (for outside line which is the norm in the UK) and 00 for international access. The display will now be 900A6199991234. Though don't delete one digit as VLAD suggests, as this will remove the first digit all togther not the A.

As VLAD mentioned there are others as well, all work on the same principle.
