Post by cavangboi »

Please help me to solve this problem when connect 2 OS6424UD switch with different version of software:
Switch 1: DC 6.4.3.520.R01 GA
Switch 2: OS6400-UD24 6.4.5.402.R02 GA
This is diagram that I get trouble with spanning tree.
Router Cisco 7606------port1/4_Switch 1_port 1/10 ----------port1/1_ Switch 2
all vlan in Switch 1 cannot reach to Switch 2.
Switch 1, I enter command :show spanning tree ports

but i still don't understand what cause this problem ?

Hi,
to your config: are you sure that you need vlan-stacking (= QinQ) in your network? Or did you looked for tagging (= 802.1q)?

The reason for the disputed state is descriped in this techtip:

Disputed state in show spantree port Output ( Tip #6249 )
Problem Description / Symptom
Show spantree <vlan> ports output displays port as disputed and port state is "LIST"

Background
A port in STP will be in "Disputed" state, when a port which is receiving an inferior STP BPDU(low priority) even in learning state. Meaning even after a switch sends a higher priority BPDU if it keeps receiving a lower priority STP BPDU then that port will move to "Disputed" state and will be in "Listening" state. So at this point of time there will no traffic allowed through this port "show vlan port" CLI, which will be in blocking state. But this will not make the port link go down only the VLAN will be in blocking state

Solution / Workaround
We can either "Filter" BPDU in the port or shutdown the port if a BPDU is received with the following command.
-> policy port group UserPorts <slot/port>
-> qos user-port <filter/shutdown> bpdu
-> qos enable
-> qos apply

You see both vlans are blocked at 1/4 and 1/10.

hope that will help you

Thank you very much Silvio.
I need vlan-stacking (= QinQ) in my network. For more infomations: when I connect 2 OS6400 with 6.4.3.520.R01 GA sofware, all thing working fine, no spanning tree eror. So maybe the eror come from the diferent in OS6400 sofware ?

the different images are no problem.
But it's always recommended to have the same software in all your switches. Also GA-Software isn't a good choice. this is the first released image of a version. So you should look for an update of your switches to an actual maintanance release.

Your proble are the disputed mode of the ports. Look in my last post for the reason.

Dir Silvio !
all switchs in my network are in used so I don't want to change images. Updating images maybe a big trouble to me ( also stopping Internet service to my customer in the province ).
thank you any way !
