Cannot connect to GD
Hello everyone.
I have just received an Alcatel OmniPCX Enterprise shelf and I cannot connect to GD. I am using a Serial-to-RJ45 cable connected to the "Config" port of the GD. I tried connecting via PuTTY Serial (COM1, 9600 Baud rate, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, No parity, flow control none), it starts booting, but when it gets to the login sequence something goes wrong: I enter "mtcl", but when prompted for password, I cannot enter anything. I attached a capture of PuTTY terminal where you can see what happens when I try to connect.
Here is my cable wiring :
RJ45 <-> 9-PIN D-SUB
1 <-> 7
2 <-> 4
3 <-> 3
4 <-> n/a
5 <-> 5
6 <-> 2
7 <-> 6
8 <-> 8
Could the cause be the wiring? Could it be the software?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Cannot connect to GD
For GD - use login "admin" (not "mtcl").

Re: Cannot connect to GD
Hi Vad, thanks for the prompt answer.
I tried with "admin" but it is still not working. I noticed that some "strange" characters appear during boot(you can see it in the snapshot I attached in the first post).. could this mean that the wiring is not ok(connection issues)?
Should I try connecting to other port on GD? or maybe on CS ?
Thanks!

Re: Cannot connect to GD
If GD3 you can connect with root account, no password.
Regarding your terminal which is your configuration?

I don't know if it is GD3 ..
Regarding the terminal, I am currently trying to connect through HyperTermina(WinXP), the settings are: COM1, 9600 Baud rate, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, No parity, flow control none.

Re: Cannot connect to GD
Try x on/ x off for flow control.
GD can be: GD, GD-2, GD-3. It is written on the card. If it is a new system it should be GD-3.

Re: Cannot connect to GD
I checked it and it is GD. It is an older system that has not been used for a while(a few years I think).
I tried with x on/ x off for flow control, but it is the same(not working). I am still worried about the "weird" characters that appear during boot(could they indicate a connection problem? ).
I also noticed some warnings during boot : I attached two snapshots so you can see.

Re: Cannot connect to GD
Try setting the emulation to VT100, it looks like either a pinout issue or hyperterminal setting.

Re: Cannot connect to GD
Hi
It seems you have problems with cables and serial port. These weird characters can be both serial ports with problem or potencial difference due to ground.
About the message "warning: unable to open an initial console", this is normal.
Check your cables again. Another thing, where is call server hosted? CS, CPU-x or AS? If you use a CS board, it also has a config port, check this too.

Re: Cannot connect to GD
Hello everyone,
First of all, I would like to thank all of you for your post, they were of great help.
I finally managed to connect. I followed enio.eltz 's advice and connected to the CS board (the config port is the top right, although it is not marked
) and it works just fine. But first I had to move the CS board in the CPU slot of the shelf, because it was not getting any power.
Anyway, thank you all for your help.
Best regards,
Calin.
