Quick question, what are mixed ports for?

Post by Andy-T »

Hi there,

Just a quick one, our OmniPCX is near capacity and I need to install a new phone (an Alcatel Advanced Reflex).

Am I right in thinking I can't install an Alcatel digital phone onto a mixed port? That they need digital ports?

We only seem to be using the mixed ports at the moment to provide analogue lines for faxes and modems etc.

Thanks,

Andy

hi, mixed cards are used for the very reason to connect digital/analogue phones and trunks on a single card. the only reason it may not work could be that the system has no liceneses for the ports. have you tried to plug a phone into the port?

Hi Murray,

Thanks for the speedy reply.

I tried plugging the Reflex into a mixed port but it didn't power up and didn't appear under subscribers/basestations in the config software.

Where would I look to see if it was a license limitation?

Thanks,

Andy

Exist mixed BOARD (MIX, AMIX). But mixed port???
You can plug Reflex set to mixed BOARD - ports marKed "digital interfaces".
When you say "OmniPCX" - OmniPCX OXO or OmniPCX Enterprise (OXE)?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I'm pretty sure the switch is a 4400 if that helps?

The board I am plugging into is a MIX 0/8/4. It has 8 x digital ports along the bottom (all used already), 4 x Analog interfaces (can't use) above the digital ports on the right and to the left of the Analog ports it has another 4 that say "Mixed" above them. Those are the ports I am trying to use here.

Thanks,

Andy

MIX 0/8/4
0 ports BRA ISDN
8 digital (UAI)
4 analog (SLI)
So - you have nothing in first 4 ports (MIX 0!!!/8/4).

For mixed boards - use command "config [shelf] -v" - instaed MIX board you will have virtual BRA, UAI, SLI boards.

Thanks Vad,

So running the "config [shelf] -v" command will allow me to use those BRA/ISDN ports as UA ports for an Advanced Reflex?

No, you wiil see your ports (board) more clear
F.e. MIX4/8/4 in position 1/1 with "config 1 -v" you will SEE like BRA4, UAI8 and SLI4. So you will see - you have only 8 ports for digital sets.

Thanks again vad.

Sorry I'm not quite understanding you, when you say "you have only 8 ports for digital sets"...

I have 8 handsets connected already to all the ports marked "Digital", so I can't use those other, non-analog ports on the Mixed board for UAs?

correct, if you have a MIX 0/8/4 it means the card can have no trunks, 8 digital phones and 4 analogue phones.
