OS6850 won't update U-Boot/Miniboot du to low flash

Post by sir_hiss »

Yesterday I upgraded an OS6850 from 6.1.5 to 6.4.3.717.R01 firmware and U-Boot/Miniboot to 6.3.4.265.R01. Now I wanted upgrade the U-Boot/Miniboot at least to the newest one but this if I upload kminiboot.uboot and ku-boot.bin to the /flash directory the switch bleats:

Code: Select all

ERROR : Synchronization Commands will not be accepted due to low flash . Remove unwanted files
to the console/logfile.
Between the upgrade session I had a crash with loaded 6.3.4 firmware because the copy-part of scp command (from outside to the switch)s not supported and the switch crashed (which is verifiable to this scp use) and produced a Crash.pmd.
I removed this file, but if I upload the Image-Files the switch shows the low flash messages.
Actually:

Code: Select all

-> freespace /flash
/flash 1871872 bytes free
I recognized two "old" image files from the old firmware: (K2diag.img + Krelease.img)

Code: Select all

drw 512 Mar 8 15:39 ./
drw 512 Mar 8 15:42 ../
-rw 1597113 Apr 17 2007 K2diag.img
-rw 1872962 Mar 8 13:30 K2os.img
-rw 2869855 Mar 8 13:31 Kadvrout.img
-rw 17817670 Mar 8 13:32 Kbase.img
-rw 5512076 Mar 8 13:34 Keni.img
-rw 4257 Apr 17 2007 Krelease.img
-rw 623975 Mar 8 13:34 Ksecu.img
-rw 1396 Mar 8 15:03 boot.cfg
-rw 3437 Mar 8 13:33 Kencrypt.img
Do I need them?

often you have Crashdumps (coredump.pmd) in /flash
check by
cd ..
dir
otherwise a delete of the files in working and copying the new versions should do..
try
reload working no rollback-timeout
afterwards and sync then..

There are no dumps anymore in /flash directory as I said before.
/flash/working and /flash/certified are identical (as far I can see). What is with this K2diag.img and Krelease.img files from the 6.1.x releases? Are they obsolet?
What should I expect to have with freespace command?

Listing Directory /flash:

-rw 317 Mar 8 15:39 boot.params
drw 512 Mar 8 15:39 working/
-rw 11 Jul 24 2006 boot.slot.cfg

drw 512 Mar 7 16:34 network/
-rw 64000 Mar 8 14:40 swlog2.log
drw 512 Mar 7 19:30 switch/
-rw 20 Mar 7 19:30 installed
-rw 256 Mar 7 19:08 random-seed

1871872 bytes free

Well, I removed those two Image files from /flash/working and started the OS6850 with reload working no rollback-timeout. It seems to operate normally and I have now 3473920 bytes free. Now it's up to copy working certified if there is nobody who tells me these both old files are necessary in 6.4.3 Release...

If the file are not in your 6.4.3 Release everything should be fine. The Release notes are straight forward and state all the needed files.

So if release notes does not state the two files.. go ahead!

Go ahead and delete the K2diag.img. It doesn't make much of a difference if you keep the Krelease.img as it is very small. Make sure that you also delete the K2diag.img from the certified directory to free up even more space.
