8450 fax server on VMware player

Post by OXE_4400 »

Hi ,
Does anybody tried to install 8450 fax server on VMware player?
I have 2 question comparing to installation on real server:
1. I am not getting BootCD question disk partitioning - "ofs" or "r6". This question appear only on real PC. Is it important type of partition?
Its just question of some partition accessing?
More important question:
2. I am trying to install 8450 fax server from newest package and got error message that need to install NetPBM first. Have You got this message?
Thanks

When compared to other solutions, it's expensive and not very much reliable (sip).
Also 9600 is a bit limiting, nowadays most MFC machines use 33600 bps (and better compression like JBIG, plus support for color faxing).
For simple things, like 4 channels with small traffic, well is't ok, but for small facsimile traffic you don't buy faxserver?

Some comments from experience.
8 channels, few hundreds of users. Support from common company ( theoretically :-) )
It works without serious problems for half year. SIP - yes and why not?
Who is really use color faxing? Never meet such.
Speed isn't most important, customer don't feel that, no need to stand closely to fax machine.
Few minutes earlier or later not so important, maybe only important if You analysing deeply phone call session cost.
