4038Ext. Edition speed mismatch PC port vs Switch port

Post by WalkI »

Dear ALU gurus,

we use 4028EE and 4038EE connected to Cisco 3560 POE switches. The switch ports on the switches are configured to SPEED=AUTO10/100,DUPLEX=AUTO. The phone is connecting to this network on the correct speed 100/Fullduplex. The problem is with the client PCs. They are connected to the phone's switchport with 1000/Fullduplex(but all NICs are configured to AUTO/AUTO). When I am trying to upload files from PCs connected via this "bad" setup to local servers connected at 1000/Fullduplex, they reach the transfer speeds only at 3MBytes/s, which shows me that this speed mismatch has really bad influence on the speed. The servers can easily receive at much higher speeds than this.

The phones use firmware NOE 3.91.60, the Cisco switch has the latest IOS installed.

What can I do to have all the phones provide only 100MBit speed to the client PCs, if their uplink port is also only rated at that speed?

Thanks for any ideas.

Regards,

WalkI

I've exactly the same problem with different Cisco Switches and IP Touch 4028EE (NOE3.91.30)...
Any ideas or other firmwares without this problem.
Did you find a solution WalkI?
Thanks.

Hi azag,

currently I have no solution to this. The only "BAD" workaround is to really manually define the port speeds on the phone devices itself, which is really very annoying. I do not have any contact in Alcatel, so I did not report this issue to their support, but to me this seems, like a firmware bug in the phones.

In the documenation I was able to read, that the phone should be smart enough, to provide the same port speed to the end client PC as it has on the incoming switch port. This is not the case for our deployment. It does not matter what I configure on the Cisco switches for port speed or duplex, the phone always gives the client PCs a full 1Gig port speed, which does not make sense.

Hi murraya,

thanks for the input. Where can I get my hands on TC1090ed05 ? I do not have support level access to Alcatel website :-(

Also we have this issue when connecting IP Touch EE phones to OXO. I do not know the contents of the TC1090ed05, but seems to me, that a similar issue should be solved there.

Hello,

Would it be possible for you to email this PDF to me as although I have registered on the site, I cannot download as I don't have the correct permissions to do so.

Thanks.
