Mirroring 10G(SFP) to 1G

Hello !

Could you hint about mirroring 10G ports to 1G port ?

According to Network Configuration Guide:

### What Ports Can Be Mirrored ?
Mirroring between any 10/100/1000 port to any other 10/100/1000 port and between any SFP to any other SFP port is supported.

Does it mean that I can't to mirror 10G (SFP) port to 1G (Ethernet) port ?

You can mirror a 10G port to a 1G port, but you should not expect this to work fine whenever the bandwidth is above 1G.

Hello benny !

Thank you for response.

Yes, I understand that 10G will not match 1G. But there are not a lot of traffic yet.

By the way, Do you know adapters for 10G interface ?
I mean some 10G adapters for Laptop or maybe separate device for traffic mirroring such interfaces (10G) ?
I couldn't find devices or adapters for this aim :(

Most laptops will not be able to transport 10G through their "hot-plug" interfaces, hence you'll likely not find any adapters.

The solution would be a professional test equipment (Fluke, Wild Packets, ...) that could help you with that (but as it is professional equipment, it comes with a price).

If you have some server hardware around, you can probably use that with e.g. Debian Linux on it to do your analysis.

Always do the math..

Depening on Number of PCIe Lanes a 10Gig Card may only transport a certain amount of data.

10Gig Interface can transport over 1 Gigabyte/s of Data.. That needs to be stored, (a good SSD can write about 400MByte/s) and processed.

So without some really fast SSD-Raid and lots of RAM you may have troubles capturing more than a couple of seconds of a fully utilized 10G link.

But according to my experiences 10G links are hardly fully saturated (apart from backup servers) in most reallife scenarios..
