4038 appears dead. All keys lit up.
I have a number of 4038's that have died while moving them from one desk to another. This happens if moving the 4038 to a desk where there used to be a 4028. I have been told that we "should" have taken both phones out of service via (#500) before moving them and then it would have worked fine.
However, it is a little late as I now have five 4038's with three keys lit (speaker key, mute key and voice mail key). As soon as I connect the phone to the LAN the keys light up immediately. The phone does not go through the steps 1/5, 2/5, 3/5 etc.
How do we now get these 4038's to come back to life.
Is there a magic reset-sequence of holding down some keys while connecting to the LAN that will help?

Re: 4038 appears dead. All keys lit up.
Just to a telnet to the PBX and clean the MAC address on those sets. As IP Set can be moved anywhere...no port attached and no need to put out of service...even if TDM no need to.
Are they powered over PoE or with power outlet? If PoE be sure that correct power is being provided

Thanks for the reply. They are PoE. I believe our voice services guys have already TELNET'ed to the PBX to clean the MAC address, however I will ask them to make sure.cavagnaro wrote:Are they powered over PoE or with power outlet? If PoE be sure that correct power is being provided
In case there are multiple ways to "clean the MAC address" on the PBX are you able to give me a reference to a section in a manual that I can quote to the voice services guys.
In case they are doing "A" when they should be doing "B" it would be a waste of time continuing to do "A".
Thank you in advance and I hope we can resolve this.

Those procedures are not on manuals, if they are trained then will have that basic knowledge as A is consequence of B...
Good luck

Re: 4038 appears dead. All keys lit up.
Do they work after a rest of some days?
It could be a memory problem in the phone.
Do a telnet into the phone if it works again and check defence 99
There should be exceptions.
I guess the phone is manufactured 2009-2010?

Re: 4038 appears dead. All keys lit up.
Hi Eliott, thankyou for your reply.
The phone remains dead even after a long time (numerous weeks).
I have a phone next to me that is still connected to the network and remains "dead". It has been like that for 3-4 weeks.
I have another phone that has been siting in a cupboard for 3-4 weeks (not connected to the network) and when I reconnected it to the network it was still dead.
So it appears that giving them a rest does not work.
I cannot see a manufacture date on them, but I would guess it was around 2009-2010 as the phones were all new when we came to this new location 3-4 years ago.
We still have no idea what is going on with these handsets. This has happened to approximately 30 handsets (out of 100) and it only happens in our location. Other locations with the same PBX and same handsets have not reported this issue.

Best option here: Open an eSR with ALU. Give all details and they will prompt you with further information on this.

The manufacturing date can be read from the reference number of the set. Week and Year.

Re: 4038 appears dead. All keys lit up.
i do not know if you have resolve the issue but you can try this (i found it in this forum)
1)So, on your side you have at first to configure your PC with address "
192.168.1.6"
2)Then start your IpTouch in industrial mode:
- IP Touch starts in industrial mode thanks to key (i 1 2 3)
+ Disconnect power of the set
+ push key i
+ reconnect power (hold always key "i" pressed)
+ push at the same time "1" "2" "3" (and "i" of course)
+ when the leds go on, you can release the key
+ now, the set is in "industrial mode"
3)Use a crossed cable to connect your Set to the PC, or a HUB
4)Now you make a telnet on the set
5) Erase Thales Security
thalsec reset
6) Restart the set
good luck

Re: 4038 appears dead. All keys lit up.
In the original described situation you can't do anything than exchange the set.
