General Questions about Tools and features

Post by baetmaen »

Hi @all,

we got a Alcatel OmniPCX from our telephony partner. I have no Idea which version (if there are different ones). It is installed in a 19" rack and uses two hight units (is this correct ? In german it is called Hoeheneinheit and the Shortcut is HE ?).

They gave me a Program called PM5 (and an additional tool to printout the Keys for the Phones), to be able to do changes. This program is prompting for a backup when I close it. But creating a backup always results in an error message. What can be done to be able to backup the config ? I think this account we are using is restricted to not every area, therefore we cannot create a backup, is this right ?

Are there other possibilities to create a backup ? Is there another software that is able to do this ? Are there updates to PM5 (I can't find it somewhere) ? Is there an alternative software to configure the stuff ?

Probably stupid questions, but I could not find anything, and our partner is also not able to tell me something about the system. He always complains Alcatel would only give rare informations to them (I can't believe this, since Alcatel would not sell a lot of those systems then).
We are not satisfied with this company (the company that sold us the OmniPCX, not Alcatel) at all.
Ie: bad response times, no one is calling back when you have problems...

Is Alcatel providing customer support (for the enduser) ?

I would also like to know, if it is possible to use the ISDN Callback (when a target phone is busy) feature ?

Additionally our sales manager asked me for pc-based dialing. He uses this with his mobile phone and his palm. Now he also would like to have this in the office.

Sorry, a lot of Question, but as I alredy said, the company that sold us the OmniPCX is not very good :(

regards
Joerg

Hi,
I'll try to respond to your questions in order:
-using PM 5 means that your system release is less than or equal to Rel. 4.1
(on higher releases we use OMC= an evolution of PM5)
-to be able to do a backup you must read the whole database from the PBX (being connected do the following: Comm-->Read all from PCX--> tick options if it is the case--->wait untill it ends; then you will be able to save your database : save as--->assign name; if you want to store your backup close PM5, open it again, select expert --->File---> Backup--->Store-->select the database you've just saved--->click ok--->select path where you want to put it)
-ISDN callback is default implemented on the system (your installer should have configured it)
-PC base dialling can be done with Pimphony (you have 10 free -you don't need additional licence- accesses for Pimphony Basic on your System)
-Alcatel provides support through Business Partners. Your installer should provide you support but that depends on several factors: system in waranty, support contract, etc. It seems that you do not posess a support contract with your local supplier.

Regards.

Also search for a local Alcatel Certified Business Partner (you can find a list on Alcatel web site).

Hi,

thanks for your answer(s).

When I try to read all data, I find some grew areas, which might mean that I'm not allowed to read all the data ? (See Pic)

All the other informations told me that I was right. For ISDN Callback for example, they told us, that this is not possible. I think they do not know how to do this. I will talk to my chef about this issue.

Thanks

Hi again,

i fired up google with pimphony, and I found a pimphony download. After installing, it told me, that it is a 60 day trial (besides an error about some service, that is not available, and therefore updates and other things would not work).

But connecting and dialing is working like a charme :)

Hi,
About grey areas: they refer to ACD services and Central Services that you don't have on your system (that's why they are greyed out).
About Pimphony is free only in basic shape (on advanced and operator mode you require a licence - I assume that you've installed Pimphony in one of these 2 modes -that's why you have a trial version for 2 months; also to increase the number of client Pimphony- over the 10 that you have now- you also require a licence).
About ISDN callback is probably not implemented by your public provider.
