IP phone DOD Problem

Post by ybelal »

Hi
I have a networked OXE 7.1. Total 10 Nodes. Have INTIP board in Node-4. Few IP phones also connected and working fine. Our system is connected (trunk) with public telephone exchange through PCM E1 link. When we call from the IP phone to any OXE network extension (local calls), quality of conversation is fine. But when we make calls from IP phone to any external public number(DOD), voice get broken. Call do not break but some word in a santance get lost or broken.May be i couldn't explain properly but hope that people will understand what i am trying to mean. Please advise what to check or do to fix this problem and also it would be nice if some one tell me how to make full traceof a call from any IP phone ( like packet sniffing of the call from a IP phone).

Regards,

Hello Ybelal,

Is your network system set to 100MB-Full duplex insteat of Auto negotiate?
I found out that this was a reason for (loud) noise on the phone lines.
The auto neg. maybe set to 10MB-Half duplex and then VoIP works bad.

Best regards,

Check http://www.voiptroubleshooter.com/diagn ... ptoms.html

And see attached doc.

Most likely, it's your network..

Thank you Frank for the nice and very helpful reply. Is there any application for voip monitoring/sniffing/analysis for Omni pcx available online for free?

Commview

Hello Ybelal,
You might want to have Commview, you can find an evaluation copy that works fine.

Thanks a lot. Actually what i want to know is that , suppose the ip address of my pc is 10.253.1.81 and the IP phone on my table connected in the same network having IP 10.253.1.17, Now i can only see /sniff packets through/for my computer IP interface, now i want any application in my pc by which i can sniff all information/packets for or used/go through my IP phones interface (10.253.1.17). I think i couldn't explain very clearly but hope that experts will understand what i want.

Thank you.

if you activate the 'mirror' function on your ip-phone, all packages that go through the phone can be captured with a sniffer like wireshark.
To activate the mirror port you must allow telnet access to the phone with the ippstat menu.
then login to the set using telnet and give the command to activate the mirror function.

Section from TG0028:
- ippstat telnet d 77116 t 10 (to enable telnet on 77116 set for 10 minutes)
- ippstat d 77116 (in order to read phone information (including its IP address))
- telnet 172.25.34.240 (use the IP address of the phone you read from the previous command)

mirror set lan (to activate the mirroring; the configuration will be lost if IP Touch reboots).
mirror set idle (to disable the mirroring).

Hello Ybelal,

You can also place an extra network card in your pc and connect a phone on it.
You can config the network cards so that the phone gets an ip adres or give it one, from the network.
This takes a bit of work, setting ip adresses and gateway.
In this way your pc is a gateway and you can sniff the pass thrue data/packets with commview or other sniffer software.
I found a lot of different software, work with commview and other software from a server, in that way i can monitor the network.
