ATnT generally configures their PRI Circuits here in the US utilizing the ATnT Custom Protocol specifically if they are allocating out of a 4ESS Central Office Switch. The Alcatel is not compatible with the ATnT customer protocol and requires a National ISDN 1 or National ISDN 2 protocol to be used. If they are using a 5ESS central office switch then they should be able to provide to provide National ISDN 1 or 2 from that type of central office switch. If you need any assistance I will be happy to assist.

As for NPD, Generally the Default ISDN Unknown is Adequate however sometimes the carriers in a particular area will require a change. Most likely to ISDN National, I suggest utilizing the default ISDN unknown and if requested change to ISDN National.

Hello Gerry,
Thank you for your answer and help.
Thank you for the tip about the protocols with AT&T.
If the Media-Gateway has come in the USA and the customer has installed it, I will inform you whether everything functions.
(It is just on the way in the USA)
Many thanks and greetings from Germany

If I understand Correctly, you are correct. The US is Ulaw and the rest of the world is Alaw. However, In the shelf setting of the media gateway there is a setting to set the local media gateway here in the states to ulaw even though the call server is set to Alaw.
see below:
┌─Review/Modify: Shelf────────────────────────────────────────────────┐

│ Node Number (reserved) : 101
│ Shelf Address : 2

│ Shelf Type + Media Gateway Large
│ Name of rack : --------------------
│ Virtual Crystal + NO
│ PARI Number + No PARI
│ Shelf role + Main (Master)
│ Main Shelf Address : 2
│ Law + Default <==== This can be changed to Match the local codec
│ Reference + NO

And if I misunderstood.. Just ignore me. :)

Hi Gerry

it's true, it's my question but i got a new one ;)
by example
a digital phone from germany (a media in Alaw) make a call in US to a another digital phone.
in this case, a Alaw Media want to speak to a Ulaw media.

it's not possible in G711 ? i wrong ?

Hi Gerry:

I note that you are a T1 expert, and I need your help.

In two days I´m going to Miami to install a new OXE with T1.
OXE has a T1 ISDN board, and customer tell me that in current system (I think Nortel) they have the T1 trunk working with protocol TIA-547.

Do you know if Alcatel board is compatible with this protocol?.

Thanks.
