I have a question regarding omniswitch OS6850-48 10G with XFP-10G-SR to connect to OS 6400 – 48 1G using SFP-GIG-SX.
can it be done in any way?
I wonder if the one with 10gigs SFP module can be downgrade to 1gig in order to connect to the 1gig one.
I believe fiber SFP module has to be in the same speed to connect with each other, isn't it correct?
Please do advice.
Many Thank's

Re: Interconection transciever
Hello,
You definately can't connect 10G XFP to 1GB/s SFP, and it doesn't make sense anyway.
XFP costs much more, and support only one speed -- 10,3125 GB/s. You have 4x combo ports on OS-6850, so you can just put another SFP there and make a connection. SFP must cost 30-350 USD depending on what kind you need (of cause if you not are fun of "original Alcatel SFP", made by Finisair).
It would be logical, if you could also stack OS-6400 and OS-6850, using stack ports and stacking cable (getting 10 GB/s full-duplex connection), but it isn't supported now and probably will be never supported.

Re: Interconection transciever
What you say is not true Eizensp.
6850-48X don't have combo-ports only 2x 10GIGE
6850-48 would have 4 combo ports but no 10GIGE
6840-24X would have 2x 10GIGE + 4x combo
6400 are logically NOT stackable with 6850 as they support no e.g. advanced routing. As in the virtual chassis concept the CMM might move to other units due to takeover, what would happen with the OSPF config on 6400?! (Yes - and that is exactly why 6400 and 6850 aren't stackable!)

Re: Interconection transciever
stack cable for 6400 and 6850 are identical ? If i don't use any layer3 features on switches, only vlans and aggregation to 10k may i stack 6400 with 6850 ?
Re: Interconection transciever
Hi m00n,
stack cable is the same - but you can't use them together in one stack (independend from used functions). So my answers: yes and no.

Silvio
