L2 Table full OS6450

Post by MartK »

Hello,
We have problem with a mac-address that doesn't show up on port 1/2 in a OS6450-U24. The switch is running on 6.7.2.99.R07.
The log shows:

Code: Select all

WED OCT 28 07:35:11 2020 BRIDGE info L2 Table full mac=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx vlan=1002
WED OCT 28 07:35:44 2020 BRIDGE info ^repeated 35 times
WED OCT 28 07:35:45 2020 BRIDGE info L2 Table full mac=yy:yy:yy:yy:yy:yy vlan=1005
WED OCT 28 07:35:45 2020 BRIDGE info L2 Table full mac=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx vlan=1002
WED OCT 28 07:41:46 2020 BRIDGE info ^repeated 341 times
WED OCT 28 07:41:50 2020 SSH info Session 28 New SSH Connection from z.z.z.z port 6565
WED OCT 28 07:41:51 2020 BRIDGE info L2 Table full mac=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx vlan=1002
WED OCT 28 07:44:46 2020 BRIDGE info ^repeated 162 times
WED OCT 28 07:44:47 2020 BRIDGE info L2 Table full mac=yy:yy:yy:yy:yy:yy vlan=1005
WED OCT 28 07:44:48 2020 BRIDGE info L2 Table full mac=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx vlan=1002
I've changed the real mac-addresses to xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx and yy:yy:yy:yy:yy:yy. VLAN 1002 is set on 1/2 (customer) and 1/25 (uplink).

show mac-address-table count gives me:

Code: Select all

Mac Address Table Count:
  Permanent Address Count = 0,
  DeleteOnReset Address Count = 0,
  DeleteOnTimeout Address Count = 0,
Dynamic Learned Address Count = 3135,
Static Multicast Address Count = 0,
Total MAC Address In Use = 3135
The datasheet says:

Code: Select all

Layer-2 switching
¬ Up to 16,000 MACs
¬ Up to 4000 VLANs
¬ Up to 2000 ACLs
¬ Latency: < 4 μs
¬ Max Frame: 9216 bytes (jumbo)
The number of mac-addresses on 1/2 is around 100. On VLAN 1002(1/2 + 1/25) there are around 1000 mac-addresses.

Port-security for 1/2:

Code: Select all

port-security 1/2 admin-status enable
port-security 1/2 maximum 200
port-security 1/2 VIOLATION DISCARD
There is no port-security for 1/25.

Is there a global setting for number of mac-addresses in the mac-address table?

all seems to be okay - max. 16000 - only 3000 used. But this error message????
Are you able to reboot the switch, or to delete all the mac-table - or at the spec. ports (no mac-address-table learned)?
Is the device with this mac direct connected to this switch or via another device/switch?

I removed all mac-addresses on 1/2 (no mac-address-table learned 1/2) but the missing mac-address did not show up.
The log still said "L2 table full".
After that I removed all mac-addresses in the switch (no mac-address-table learned).
The missing mac-address now showed up on 1/2.

I still got "L2 table full" but with another mac-address. I didn't get the message that often but I still got it.

We have a log-server and this is the only switch out of 200 that have shown this error message during the last year.

I rebooted the switch two hour ago and that seems to have done the trick. No error message yet.
Mac count is over 3000.

When I rebooted the switch the uptime was only 192 days. I will report back if the error message comes back.
Might need to replace the switch then.
