No SCSI support with OXE R8.0.1 in VM

Hi Guys,

Im usinge the OXE in my lab in a VM environment which supports only SCSI disks. After an upgrade to R8.0.1 and switch to the unactive partion my system doesnt boot anymore.

After some research I found out, that the SCSI support seems to be gone in the Linux version of R8.0.1. If you set up a OXE from scratch (as "Bladeserver" in the PC installer) no harddisk will be found.
R8.0 - g1.302 linux 53.0 --> SCSI OK
R8.0.1 - g1.503 linux 55.0 --> SCSI NOK
R9.0 - h1.301 linux 62.0 --> SCSI OK
In 8.0 and 9.0 there is no problem. If I use a g1.503 version with Linux 53.0 there is also no problem, but this is not the correct Linux for R8.0.1.

Does anybody have an idea how to solve that or has experienced the same? ;-)

Thanks & Greetings,
T-Rex

Why not set them up as IDE disks in VM?

Because my VM does not have the ability to create IDE disks. Unforetunately. :(

:shock: What VMWare is that??? Bad cracked or what???? Ask VMWare support for why you can't...if you have support of course.

I agree with cavagnaro.

Something is wrong with the VMWare installation. Even free version of VMWare Server has IDE support.
http://www.vmware.com/download/

Unless we both missed the boat and you are not using VMWare, if so then download and try on that.

PS: Just noticed that ESXi version of VMWare is now also Free - YEAH!

Hi.
There is information in this link:

http://theether.net/kb/100038

It's about problems with some kernel versions and LSI SCSI adapters in VMware. OXE 8.0.1 uses kernel 2.4.17, those issues should not affect your VM, but you can try with Bus Logic adapter in your Virtual Machine.
I had problems with Bus Logic SCSI adapters ... but in the free VMware Server, not in ESX.

But why use SCSI on a VMWare for an OXE????

Becaouse this VMWARE version of trex1 can't simulate IDE drive :\

I think that he has paid many $$$ for "ESX" super-server vmware mode, and plain IDE drive is not supported :(
best solution: download the vmware server -> it's free and works good.
