How to permanet save configuration

Post by stich86 »

Hi guys,

i was thinking that "write memory" save my running config, so if the switch is reloaded all stuff remain in place.
But it doesn't seem to work as expected (or I'm too much Cisco\Juniper noobs).

what's the official method to save configuration and avoid losts after a reload?

EDIT:

I've run this command "write memory flash-synchro" on my 6900 cluster, but the output of "show running-directory" reports "Running Configuration: NOT SYNC"

Code: Select all

> show running-directory

CONFIGURATION STATUS
  Running CMM : MASTER-PRIMARY,
CMM Mode : VIRTUAL-CHASSIS MONO CMM,
  Current CMM Slot : CHASSIS-1 A,
  Running configuration : WORKING,
  Certify/Restore Status : CERTIFIED
SYNCHRONIZATION STATUS
  Flash Between CMMs : SYNCHRONIZED,
  Running Configuration : NOT SYNCHRONIZED
Those unit are running 8.6.299.R01

Thanks!

Hello,
In Cisco you simply have the 'running' (memory) and the 'startup' (file).

In ALE you have 'running' (memory), 'working' (file1) and 'certified' (file2). Imagine file 2 as a backup or as a failsafe in case you want to have 2 different configs saved.
When you 'write memory' you save into the file you loaded from (usually the 'working'), but then the 2 files will be different which will cause the switch to probably not load from the correct of those 2 when there is a power outage. That is the case from your show output above.
When you 'copy running certified' you are making those 2 files the same again.

I'm over simplifying here but the Switch Management Guide has details on this in chapter 3 and 4

You come from different vendors, same as me just a few years ago. I spent quite a bit of time reading these ALE docs to get into how things work with this particular vendor. It's a good resource for things like this!

ok little bit clear.. anyway i've tried:

copy running certified
copy running certified flash-synchro
copy flash-synchro

but still get:

Code: Select all

CONFIGURATION STATUS
  Running CMM : MASTER-PRIMARY,
CMM Mode : VIRTUAL-CHASSIS MONO CMM,
  Current CMM Slot : CHASSIS-1 A,
  Running configuration : WORKING,
  Certify/Restore Status : CERTIFIED
SYNCHRONIZATION STATUS
  Flash Between CMMs : SYNCHRONIZED,
  Running Configuration : NOT SYNCHRONIZED

Any other suggestion? I hope to not reload the enteire switch :(

You might be running an old version, usually 'write memory flash-synchro' works for me.

Try the same thing but with separate commands one after the other:
'write memory' to save from the memory into your working directory
then 'copy running certified' to copy to the certified file

If this doesn't work then I'm out of ideas :P

vcboot.cfg seems good on the flash, how to see the second flash? So I can be sure that is good
