Serial Garbage

Hello all,

I just bought a used OmniSwitch 6400-24.
There is an IP 192.168.200.115 written on it, but i cannot connect to it.

I tried to connect to the serial port on the front. I made a cable myself from instructions I found here.
The cable seems to work as I receive some garbage characters from the switch.
I tried the standard setting of 9600,8n1 but to no success.
I tried other speeds, 1200, 2400 4800, 9600, 19200, 38400, 57600, 76800 and 115200 - no success

Could anyone give me a hint please on how to access the switch from the console? Thank you!

Appreciate your time and help
Rolf

Hi Rolf.
I had problems with generic USB-RS232 adapters, I was only able to access the terminal using a PC with an onboard serial port.

Thank you Bertote.
That exactly solved the problem.

I plugged my DIY cable to a real serial port and it worked right away.

If you're looking for a Product that works, I've got an ATEN UC232A USB Adapter which I've never had any problems with.
