More Questions about OxO on VMWARE

Post by Krusty65 »

Doing a course and got to thinking about the OxO on VmWare

As the CPUe's on the OxO are a PIII-700 the code should run on a laptop

I have so far managed to get the vm to talk to the boot loader and then to the tftp server.

At the tftp server stage it d/l's the install_flash.tftp file and then stops, this is just a txt file which lists the other files to be transferred non of which would seen to be an issue.

Anyone got any ideas why the other 5 files won't transmit?

But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years.

I think for some questions we need a counters. How many times was asked the same question and received the same answer. Or make templates for answer - "use search", "not possible", "read documentation", "please go ....".

good idea vad - but then people like me look forward to some of Cav posts where he uses nice & simple english to respond to the posters who don't search or read. Sometimes when I have a bad day, I come on here looking to see who the dog has gone and upset now... lol (or have I got that the wrong way around - 'come on here and see who has upset the dog')

(PS - Tot3 - yes I know what we agreed, pls forgive me just this once)

To Cav et all,

I have read the topic and even understood the thread, the main jist of which was that the code would have difficulty running on the elan processor that Alcatel use for the cpu, cpu-1 etc.

However as I said the CPUe and variants use a PIII Intel processor which means that the code must be i386 compatible in some sense.

As an aside I have a friend who works with fiber optics, nobody told him that EVERYONE believed that the multiplexing of light was 'impossible' so he tried it anyway, the company he works for now has a very valuable patent! (this is from a long time ago)

Things are only IMPOSSIBLE until someone figures out how to do it.

Hi Krusty,
The problem is that is not exactly what only we believe, is what we have tested (not exactly me) but have helped on trying to put one on a VMWare and was not successfull at all. I believe that all who posted also at some point tried to do it and failed too.
If you can make it work that would be cool, but let us know specific version and CPU used on your PC, AMD or Intel.

I believe we all have sometime done something that was told to us that was impossible, trying and making an effort is the best way to learn. But it is also true that if somebody already died discovering that plutnium was radioactive, why should I risk myself again just to be sure?

Cav,

Thanks for the reply, I understand your position but continuing an investigation never caused you to grow another head (at least not on vmware as far as I know :D ) I will continue to play as I believe with the right settings this should be possible.
