Connecting to the console port of OmniSwitch 6350-p24

Hi,

I purchased a used OmniSwitch 6350-p24 for my home network. I started reading the manual, and realized that I don't have the adapter for the console port. Also, I don't have a serial port to connect to on my PC.

How should I proceed? Should I buy a modular DB9-RJ45 adapter and wire it according to this: https://i.imgur.com/U2rtrvY.png? Is there a better way?

How about the DB9 to USB? Can I just purchase any cable that does that, or is there more to it? I recall reading something about FTDI chips, but feel a bit lost...

Thanks!

normaly the adapter is within the box of a new switch. There is no other real way - best is to buy this (or make it by yourself).
Also you need to buy a "normal" adapter usb-to-serial (RS232).

There is another way... but you need a lot of knowledge how to setup the dhcp and tftp server correctly - so that the switch gets automaticly a config (where ssh f.e. is allowed). But sometimes you will need the serial connection - so you should buy them.

Thanks Silvio. I realized I wasn't precise enough in my original post - I bought this switch second-hand for my home network, so no box, no manual, no adapter.

Is there anything special to know about these adapters? Any place in particular where I can buy them and know that it will work?

Thanks!

Thanks Silvio! I managed to put an adapter together using a configurable DB9 to RJ45 and following these instructions: viewtopic.php?f=337&t=19473&start=10. I can now connect to the console.
