routing

Post by yoronto »

Hi everybody,

I am lost with routing through my 6860 switch

Into VLAN 10, I have 2 equipments connected to the switch:
1 equipment with ip 10.1.1.11 mask 255.255.255.0 gateway 10.1.1.1
1 equipment with ip 10.61.1.12 mask 255.255.255.0 gateway 10.61.1.2

I want these 2 equipments to communicate through the switch.

In my boot file, I have (maybe incorrect?)
----------------------------
vlan 10 admin-state enable
vlan 10 name "Yor Lan"

vlan 10 members port 1/1/1 untagged
vlan 10 members port 1/1/2 untagged

spantree vlan 10 admin-state disable

ip interface "Yor1 Router" address 10.61.1.2 mask 255.255.255.0 vlan 10 ifindex 1
ip interface "Yor2 Router" address 10.1.1.1 mask 255.255.255.0 vlan 10 ifindex 2

ip static-route 10.61.1.2 mask 255.255.255.0 gateway 10.1.1.1 metric 1
ip static-route 10.1.1.1 mask 255.255.255.0 gateway 10.61.1.2 metric 1
-------------------------------------

It does not work, as the 2 equipment does not communicate. How to route it ? I am completely lost.

Thank you!

ip interface "Yor1 Router" address 10.61.1.2 mask 255.255.255.0 vlan 10 ifindex 1
ip interface "Yor2 Router" address 10.1.1.1 mask 255.255.255.0 vlan 10 ifindex 2

You assigned both ip interfaces to vlan 10.

That's basic networking, you have 2 subnets, basically that should be 2 vlans.

Looking at the above configuration, its clear that you don't understand networking, please do some reading and watch some training videos on Youtube.

Thank you for advice, I want to learn and I am a basic beginner. So now I understand my error. I defined a second VLAN and redefined my static-routes and it works. :)

Now I want to multicast between VLAN101 and VLAN102. I read I have to use DVMRP (or PIM). So, sorry for this new ultra-basic question, but what is wrong with my multicast, as it does not work... as if multicast is not able to go from one vlan to another.

vlan 1 admin-state enable
vlan 101 admin-state enable
vlan 101 name "Yor1"
vlan 102 admin-state enable
vlan 102 name "Yor2"

vlan 101 members port 1/1/1 untagged
vlan 102 members port 1/1/2 untagged

ip interface "vlan101" address 10.61.10.2 mask 255.255.255.0 vlan 101 ifindex 1
ip interface "vlan102" address 10.1.10.1 mask 255.255.255.0 vlan 102 ifindex 2

ip multicast admin-state enable
ip multicast vlan 101 admin-state enable
ip multicast vlan 102 admin-state enable

ip multicast static-group 224.0.0.66 vlan 101 port 1/1/1
ip multicast static-group 224.0.0.66 vlan 102 port 1/1/2

ip static-route 10.61.2.0 mask 255.255.255.0 gateway 10.61.10.12 metric 1
ip static-route 10.1.1.0 mask 255.255.255.0 gateway 10.1.10.11 metric 1

ip load dvmrp
ip dvmrp interface "vlan101"
ip dvmrp interface "vlan101" mbr-default-information enable
ip dvmrp interface "vlan102"
ip dvmrp interface "vlan102" mbr-default-information enable
ip dvmrp admin-state enable

Is something missing?

Thank you, as I pursue my studying.

It works, just a TTL problem.

Issue solved.
