4019 in Auto-answer mode

It's probably a simple and obvious thing to some on here - but I don't work on the OXO a lot. We've got a customer that says the 4019 phone's speaker activates when called instead of ringing. I know with an 8029 and 8039 the mute key is pressed to activate auto-answer mode, and it's lit to indicate that. The customer said the mute light is lit, when pressing it, the light stays on and the phone is still in auto-answer.
We turned on an OXO we have in the shop and connected a 4019 phone. Pressing mute would not do anything. The only way to activate any type of auto-answer was in Settings then something with the headset option. The 4019 would auto answer, but no audio through the speaker. I wonder if someone may have swapped an 8029 for a 4019? I'll look again in the user guide for more information about this, couldn't find anything so far.
