can someone kindly explain to me, what exactly the checkbox "Broadcast ARP" does?

It appears in the settings, when someone creates a new SSID.

The name is unfortunate; it should have been named smth like "ARP optimization" or "Proxying ARP replies".
Here is what manual says:

Broadcast ARP: If enabled, AP will reply to client’s ARP request instead of forwarding.
