7450 VPLS to VLAN Troubleshooting

What troubleshooting steps/commands would be best to assist in trying to determine why a VLAN connected to the SAPs on a VPLS over MPLS LSP will not allow pings, but the MACs of the end devices can be seen by the last switch in VPLS and in the VLAN?
I have used show service id <VPLS #> fdb detail to show the MACs were passing.
I tried traceroute, but understand after further reading that because the VPLS is not routed and acts a a switching tunnel you cannot see With traceroute.
