MEDIA GATEWAY BACKUP UPS

Post by tchan »

Hi,
Can anyone advise me on what is the best UPS rating for a media gateway?
Currently, we have remote 14 sites that have media gateways and all these sites do not have a backup UPS.
So when there is a power fluctuation or failure the media gateway power supply gets damaged which is so frustrating because there is no backup UPS. :(

if there is no appliance/crystal hw there - only thing you need is a cable and external battery box.
for large (9 slot) it should be 36V ( mostly it's pair of 3 x 12V batteries of 7-9 Ah capacity each - so 6 batteries).
ALU makes nice boxes for this - they could even go into a 19" rack shelf.
UPS - only gets trouble with proper shutdown - ALU's GD don't support nice shutdown when there is no CPU in this MG - at the end normal UPS whould give just power off, GD has no sense of "external UPS".
Also - batteries are cheaper than pair of batteries&inverter that makes a UPS :)
