Hi,

I have some troubles getting a GA-2 in Service. (OXE R9.1-i1.605-21-au-c80s1)
I configured the GA but when I check the GA console it is always rebooting.

To my understanding the GA2 is always sending bootp requests.
Sniffed on the CS side and I can see the bootp request.
All LAN connections via CS1 board, but also tried with external switch (noVLANs)

Already flased the GA, no success.

I have your problem on win7 -do you use win7?

This is NOT OS related...flashing with PCInstaller was ok...the GA is just not going IN SERVICE....

When you flash with PC Installer - load binary with PC installer, wait when GA will start and only after this - stop PC Installer.

I set the DIP Switches to 1-On,2-On,3-Off,4-On., started PC Installer, GA flashed. At the end I saw

I stopped the GA and then the PC Installer and put the DIP back to 1-On,2-On,3-Off,4-Off (so value of 3)


So, the GA2 should start from flash first and then get the IP from CS? Or is it always starting with bootp request?

Can someone post me a successful GA2 startup log?

PC, GA, GD, CS connected to the switch (accessible via IP).
You need to load GA from PC Installer with normal (for GA board) DIP position. Not close PC Installer.
Board will start and will take IP parameters from CS. When board will be in service - close PC Installer.

Got it...now in service...but had to use XP, Win7 wasn't working (didn't send bootp reply, also not when started as admin)...so swinstation was right....thx vad for your help!

win 7 is always giving problems in PC installer application... it is better to use XP

And if still have problems with 'brand new GA' (that was only in stock, and never used) it's good to do this:
have all of linux releases on PC harddrive (R5.1, R6 ... R9.1) and use pc installer, to program with the lowest release of GA firmware, then with some firmware "up" etc.. it works.
Had some problems with brand-new GA cards that will not run under the very latest R9.1, but flashing with R5.1 binaries, and doing manual upgrade worked as a charm.
Second thought: if you use switch, don't use any cisco or other 'dhcp snooping / tftp snooping'-capable switch, use plain LANX8/LANX16 card or SLANX4 or any stupid switch, as the GA loading requires some tftp/bootp that is not compatible with some L2+ switch advanced functions like dhcp/tftp snooping.

Sorry to bring this back up again but Ive just had this same issue with a client. Ive never had it before with a GA, but this looks like it might help, however the technical documentation states to flash the GA, it should be in slot 0 of the chassis. Like the original poster, I have managed to update the binaries, however the GA is stuck in a bootp loop.

Are you guys saying to leave the GA in its regular slot (in this case 2-1), leave the PABX running, so CS and GA on the LAN, then connect a PC running PC installer (from the sounds of this thread XP might still be the way to go?) so that all 4 devices are on the network?

Then to have PC installer running with the GD/GA binary flash option, get the GA (if this is possible at this point, I dont have the console handy to check those ctrl+b, ctrl+i options) to bootp from the PC installer and then it will connect to the CS?

This is also all undertaken with the DIP switches as per normal (1 up, 2 up, 3 down, 4 down)?
