RSTP on user-customer-port ??

Post by Jerome »

Hi everyone,
One of our customers wants to have a double attachement on two 6850 link together with a cisco switch.

As a result I need to implement RSTP. I have configured the bridge mode in 1x1. Between the two 6850, the port are declared as network port with a SVLAN (vtsk mode) everything works fine for this link (BPDU transmitted normally and root election OK).

Now the problem is on the port facing the client. They are configured as user-customer-port (vlan svlan port 1/13 user-customer-port default-svlan 131 for exemple). And Even if this VLAN runs an RSTP instance, there are no bpdu packet flowing out of this port toward the customer.

Is it normal ? What should I do to include these customer ports in the RSTP topologie ?

Ps : I asked the customer to put its cisco switch in transparent mode. But this is not the problem as even if we link the two 6850 user customer port with a cable, the loop isn't cut by the RSTP as no BPDU are sent on these ports.

Any help will be appreciated.

Best regards

hello

stp topology you have for svlan 131 will not have impact to user-customer-port.

So you have one stp topo with svlan 131

so it is normal traffic bpdu of svlan 131 will no go into customer port, even if customer vlan are encapsultaed into svlan 131.

So what would be the standard architecture if I want to mangage a loop between our 6850 and the customer switch ?

could you post a design

goal of svlan is to not manage stp of customer

stp on user port will cross svlan without any change by provider, there is specific mac adresse destination for stp provider and stp native vlan.

so you must image svlan stp layout and on top of that customet stp layout.

So if you think provider stp must intercat with customer stp, you are wrong.

have a look to this config sample
