Alcatel Omniswitch 6850 vlan configuration

Howdy,
I need to come to grips with configuring vlans on alcatel omniswitch 6850 24 & 48 port switches. I have 8 of each in my network. Presently there are 2 vlans configured by the company that we contracted to install our VOIP system. As our network has progressed it has become evident that we cannot continue to rely on paying this contractor to configure changes to these switches. Budgets being tight it is difficult to gain approval for expensive training in alcatel switch configuration, thus I am hopeful to use Alcatel Unleashed to help gain a better working knowledge of these devices. Vlan configuration is the present subject of need for me. I also have a switch that presently has a very noisy fan and I am hoping that I can do the fan replacement myself? If not we are looking into buying a spare switch so if that route is taken the question is can the configuration file of the switch with the bad fan be exported for importation to the new switch? how is that for a first real post to the forum?

vlan 10 enable <- This creates a VLAN 10
vlan 10 port default 1/2 <- This moves the "default" VLAN (untagged) of port 1/2 to VLAN 10
vlan 10 802.1q 1/3 <- This creates a 802.1q tag on port 1/3
Please find the link to the documentation in my signature. You'll reach your goal faster by reading the documentation.

Hi There Tom
Did you manage yet ? Here are some more help if you need, just let us know if you need more or spesific help ?
You can create Layer 2 and Layer 3 VLAN, which is ten to one what you need as well.
To create a Layer 2 VLAN you should do :
vlan 123 name "The name for this VLAN"
Then you should tell the switch which ports will be part on that VLAN by doing:
vlan 123 port default 1/9
vlan 123 port default 2/9
The above lines added switch one port 9 and switch 2 port 9 to the "vlan 123"
Then to create a Layer 3 VLAN you should do the following:
ip interface "VLAN 123 vlan-name" address 192.168.0.1 mask 255.255.255.0 vlan 123 ifindex1
The above line made a VLAN named "VLAN 123 vlan-name" which you can just change to be the same name as the Layer 2 VLAN you created.
The above line then set that VLAN in the 192.168.0.0/24 range and spesifically made the default gateway for this range and this VLAN 192.168.0.1 with 24 bit subnet.
The above line also attached it to the Layer 2 V:AN you created and set the ifindex to 1 because this is the first Layer 3 VLAN you created, the next Layer 3 VLAN will be ifindex 2 etc.
If you are running a fiber cable from one switch to another, and need to tag the VLAN accross, you need to do:
vlan 123 802.1q 1/1 "TAG PORT 1/1 VLAN 123"
This spesify that vlan 123 is tagged from your one switch ( switch 1 port 1 ) to another switch (also on switch 1 port 1 )
It is always port 1 to 4 that is used, because that is the ports attached to the GBIC ports on the switch.
Let us know if you need more help ?

Trunk between CISCO 4500 and Alcatel 6850
Is this correct ?
!
interface GigabitEthernet1/24
description ALCATEL 6850
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport trunk native vlan 5
switchport mode trunk
!
Alcatel 6850
vlan 5 name "vlan_5"
vlan 2 name "vlan_2"
vlan 5 port default 1/24
vlan 2 802.1q 1/24

vlan 2 802.1q 1/24
Looks to be correct, switch 1 port 24 is used on the CIsco and switch 1 port 24 is used on the Alcatel as well. Why do you have 2 VLANS configured for the same port on the Alcatel ? Why only configure 802.1q on VLAN 2 ?

I just want to create a trunk in the alcatel, similar to cisco conf.
Switch 1
!
interface GigabitEthernet1/24
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport mode trunk
!
Switch 2
!
interface GigabitEthernet1/24
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport mode trunk
!
And i want to have vlans 2, 5, 7, 8, etc in both switches.
