PVST+ enable = power cycle on 6850-U24X

I am working with a fairly large network of mixed Cisco/Alcatel equipment which is performing less than ideally. I have found some problems with Spanning Tree (ie multiple devices consider themselves the root for a single vlan). Manually adjusting root bridge priority has made no difference. I have now discovered that while the Cisco equipment is running PVST+, the Alcatel equipment is running 1X1 but PVST+ is disabled. I enabled PVST+ via "bridge mode PVST+ enable". Immediately the device fell offline, reloaded to the working configuration, and simply disregarded the PVST+ enable command.

I'm certain I missed something here, I just can't come up with what it may be. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Are you running AOS 6.4.2.807.R01? If yes I would recommend to upgrade the switch to the latest maintenance release and if this doesn't help open a SR with Alcatel-Lucent.

Like Benny said, Firmware first.
Then:
Usage Guidelines
• In order to handle PVST+ mode, the ports must be configured in 1x1 mode.
• This command enables the ports to handle PVST+ BPDUs.
• In this mode, the bridge priority field of the bridge ID can only be changed by a multiple of 4096
Examples:
-> bridge mode 1x1 pvst+ enable
-> bridge mode 1x1 pvst+ disable
OR:
Usage Guidelines
• In order to handle PVST+ mode, the ports must be configured in 1x1 mode.
• Initially, a port sends or receive IEEE BPDUs. Once a PVST+ BPDU is received, the port will send
and receive only PVST+ BPDUs for tagged VLANs and IEEE BPDUs for default VLANs

Examples
-> bridge port 1/3 pvst+ enable
-> bridge port 2/2 pvst+ auto

Thanks for the information guys. We ended up pulling the device and replacing it with a spare unit on site. The original is on its way to Alcatel.

I have the same situation, but in new switch OS6360-P48 with AOS 8.7.252.R02 d, they dont have bridge mode 1x1 pvst+ enable, but i configured like this:
! Spanning Tree:
spantree pvst+compatibility enable
spantree vlan 1 admin-state disable
spantree vlan 10 admin-state disable
spantree vlan 11 admin-state disable
spantree vlan 40 admin-state disable
spantree vlan 64 admin-state disable
spantree vlan 65 admin-state disable
spantree vlan 68 admin-state disable
spantree vlan 69 admin-state disable
spantree vlan 70 admin-state disable
spantree vlan 71 admin-state disable
spantree vlan 82 admin-state disable

If I enable spantree vlan 1 mgmt port on Alcatel become unavailable.
Can someone help me?

1x1 ist the Alcatel own perVlan mode (instead of flat mode). You can switch this 1x1 mode to be compatible with cisco pvst+
