Yes there is:
ARMADA: if U start with GD3 then you add one ARMADA, then go Crystal with INTIP3, so you re-use ARMADA(with GIPx-x or MADAx or MCVx boards its not possible).
GD3/GA3/INTIP3 -> softssm (encryption) if you want / plan to use it, then it's better to go into a 'step 3' cards, much more simple (somehow cheaper if you count TCO)
GD/GA/CS it's the very same base board with different add-ons, so if you have like 4 remote sites with GD, CPU on CS, then you should buy 5th site also on GD+GA (!)
also, stated in docs (!!!)
GD/GA=> mada3 / mcv24 -> 24 DSP, MEX / PowerMEX for example multi-party conference (well, it''s your homework to search and nail down the difference!)
CS is up to 300 real (TDM) / 500 virtual (IP) users. keep that in mind.
AS is HP or IBM. But remember that it needs proper UPS to gracefully shutdown.
So, everything is there in docs. As you say: if you run R9.1 and you have GD+GA, then you had older Release of OXE and bought upgrade recently. If you have 48 DSP, you run like 100+ ip phones, as my thumb and glass orb say, or you provide some conferences.
In CPU6 there are voice guides (no need for GPA/VG), in AS / CS there is VoiceMail on cpu...
Etc... for example GD+GA mean: up to 16 minutes of dynamic VGs it's all in docs. Just in the small print, sometimes.

Re: CPU`s Board Understanding
Thank you - very helpful info!
Well, my questions were mostly originated by older hardware I can reuse for expansion. There are many used items on ebay that I can incorporate, so why not to reflash an obsolete CPU-3 into a spare GD.
What about compressor daughtercards? How do they relate? Say voip8-16-24 of OXO and mada1/3/armada from OXE? How are they cross-compatible with processor cards and software?
Thank you.

Kindly,
please do your homework yourself.
BIG RED BANNER, right & top of every page on this forum, yeap?
You don't pay for consulting nor the new hardware, just buy used on ebay, so please at least don't expect us to do everything for you, ok?
Or send me a beer or two :p

Ok, there is a banner dude, on top-right, just download and learn :>
Also; take part in some vendor project and then try to see what could be re-used, what is needed on stock etc... practice makes you a master ALU hacker.
