Fax machine into ipdomain using G729 compression

Should my fax machine ring when someone calls my house phone? I just hooked up my new fax machine, I replaced the telephone jack that was hooked up to one of my phones with the fax machine. Every time someone calls my home phone the fax rings. I can also make phone calls from my fax machine to other phones. Am I going to be able to receive faxes properly?

Not cleare. You have PBX - fax connected to internal port and if someone call your HOME phone (outside PBX??) - you have ring on the fax?
