Random physical ports have busy tones

Post by vanshee »

Hi,

I am not an expert on ALcaTEL pabx. I'm the IT administrator in our property, and I need some help at present, as our PABX engineer is out of the country. My problem is that some random ports in the PABX have busy dial tones. Im using OmniPCX management console, and I check the diversion- there is no BUSY diversion configured. I have 6 analog interfaces card, and these ports that have busy tones are not on the same analog cards.

What do you mean? You call them and only hear busy tones?
Have you checked if the sets are plugged in?
Or you pickup them and only hear busy tones?

Thanks for the response. When we pick up the handset, the dial tone is not a long sound but just a continous beep sound (like a busy tone). However from that same line, I am able to call extension 0 (which is the operator), and vice versa, I can receive calls from the operator as well. I have not yet tried to call any of our 3 digit extensions and to check vice versa. There's no problem with the cabling inside the room. I verified it after connecting a phone directly to the port in the PABX, and I'm getting the same tones. Is it maybe something wrong with the port? By the way I have 6 analog interface cards in the PABX, and 6 random ports which is connected to various analog interface cards have this issue.

You PBX has voice guides? As VAD says, seems more like a feature message. Maybe missing voice guides and then you hear that message?

Are you sure it is not simply the internal dialing tone? It sounds very similar to a busy tone. In standard configuration the internal dialing tone is not heard on digital and IP-Sets, but on analog ports it is normal. This would also explain why you can call and be called normally on those sets. If you have sets that give you an normal free tone on hang-up there is most likely hotline enabled. You can look in the subscriber in Misc. and then in the upper left corner there is the "hotline" option.
