Alcatel One Touch Idol X - Notification Sound

Tried > Settings > Sound > Notification Sound.
I would choose my preference.But no matter what I choose, it stays with the one tone "ding" (this recently happened because I remember my chosen setting and it worked ok at the time). For some reason ,I can't get my choice to stick now.
