First startup OXE, novice question
Hello I know that this question might be one of those questions bored to answer.
Well, I went to a basic course of OXE, at the course, I just pushed the ON button on both the GD-3 and the CS-2 and then I was able to see the boot process.
I just got my DEMO OXE but I can`t initialize the system, Im not even able to acces through the console port on neither the GD nor the CS, the only led turned ON on the GD-3 is the Power LED, the onlye LED turned ON on the CS-2 is the CPU. All leds are green light.
I know from OXO that the FAN led must be ON (green) in order to start the system but here with my new OXE that doesn't happen.
So my question is, Should I do something before I can acces OXE through the console port? Please note that the system has been just outed of the box, so it is completley new.
NOTE. Im completely sure that the problem isn't my serial connection because I have an Omniswitch 6250 (configured with default parameters, 9600,8,1,none) and I don't have any problems accesing the switch, the problem is just with OXE.
Well, hope someone can help me with this novice question

Re: First startup OXE, novice question
Connect CS-2 LAN and GD-3 box with LAN patchcord. Do you see LAN led going blink on both cards ? Wait 5-15 minutes (if oxe has an unclean shutdown it could be 15, if it's a blank new GD- even seen once a 20-30 if it needs to reflash bios&firmware on GD).
If your cable is ok, you should see output on CS card - even IF your OXE needs software to be loaded.
You should have a mac address on sticker attached to both CS and GD, connect to lan switch with a laptop and use "arp" to check if GD/CS are going on?
And yes cable for 6250 and CS/GD are the very same cables.

Re: First startup OXE, novice question
Well Mr. krzysioD first let me thank your for your answer.
I have attached a file with my conections. I can't see any LAN LED blinking, the only LEDs blinking are Power con GD-3 and CPU on CS-2. As you told me I will wait a bit more to see if the system starts up.
Again thanks for your time

Re: First startup OXE, novice question
Looks good,
the lower four ports on CS are 4 port LAN switch (very poor's man switch) - you could try to connect CS & GD directly lan port to a lan port - but well, it will not help a lot, haven't seen a 4port switch in CS broken.
try to connect with diffrent cable and diffrent laptop (i assume that maybe there is some glitch in this connection), turn off the CS-2 card by a switch (with a paper clip or pencil...) does the led on CS go blink green to red, and then only red, and then solid state RED - this is how it looks when it's proper shutdown of CS.
when you power on your CS - it must say something on terminal (same for GD) - don't believe that brand new 2 cards are broken in that way. You connect to a config port? rightmost on the top line of RJ45? it must say someting and react to an enter key with any kind of prompt. IMVHO: check your cables!

Re: First startup OXE, novice question
After a while (maybe 15 minutes) activity between the GD-3 and CS-2 have began, I can see the module 2 LED blinking (but then it stops).
I can't connect through serial port, it tells me that "I cannot open COM 5" and yes I'm trying to access the system through the v24 ports I have read about them from the bussines portal.
And about red LED blinking when turning OFF the CS-2 the answer is no, the LEDs just go from green to nothing, they never blink in red. In fact, As I have already said, the Power LED on the CS-2 has never been turned ON.
I have tried the third port on the UNIT 3 but have same results.
I have also noted that once in a while the HD LED on the CS-2 blinks.

Re: First startup OXE, novice question
"I cannot open COM 5" means: your V24 in your laptop, probably a rs232<>usb dongle is having a hard time
try to use diffrent laptop/diffrent pc.
imvho - you have a brand new hardware and it needs to be setup, without working console - it's no use.
so 1st - fix your RS232c port !
As for unit -3 it means: a 4 port lan switch seems to work.

Re: First startup OXE, novice question
I I have an Omniswitch which I can access without any problem through it's console port, Does that aprove my v24 connection? I mean, could I say that the problem isn't my serial connection if I can access the omniswitch?
Is it the same DB9 for both the OXE and the omniswitch?

Re: First startup OXE, novice question
So, where does the "i cannot open com 5 " goes from? is it your usb dongle?
stay open with the terminal and take patchord end from omniswitch and put it into CS-2 card - config port (right - top) - type enter once or twice - it MUST work !

Re: First startup OXE, novice question
Well I can access the Omniswitch without any problem, but I can't acces my OXE.
And yes you were right it worked, I moved from the omniswitch to the CS-2 with the com open and the CS-2 gave me this message:
00000000 - 000000000009d000 (usable)
BIOS-e820: 000000000009d000 - 00000000000a0000 (reserved)
BIOS-e820: 00000000000e0000 - 0000ðþ
I can't write or see anything else, it's an advance
Shouldn't be strange that there is no activity between the CS-2 and the UNIT 1? I mean the link between the switch and the LAN of CS-2.

Re: First startup OXE, novice question
your RS232<>USB dongle is 'broken' - seen that many times, ie - it works with some V.24 (like switch) but you can't press enter etc... it's even worse with some laptops and real RS232c ports, for the 'old harware' 4400 voice mail port with v.24, so - as i suggest - go get another dongle, preferable with different chip
