Option 66 not being sent from Microsoft 2008 DHCP server

Post by mlymbery »

Greetings all,
We are migrating from a Novell DHCP environment to a Microsoft environment and we are having issues sending DHCP Option 66 for our 4028 phones. We have configured option 66 for the scope but the server doesn't send it in the DHCP packet and inserts its own IP address in the Next Server Address (siaddress) field. Has anyone else encountered this issue? I've looked at a range of documents and the only thing that I can see that might be an issue is that the handset inserts aclatel.noe.0 into the Vendor Class ID, which I theorise might send the DHCP server off checking for options defined for this Vendor Class, which the server isn't configured to pay attention to.

Thanks,
Michael

Technical communication 0601 has a nice example of MS 2003 server configuration. I think this info will be useful also in case of MS 2008.
If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.

Thanks for a speedy post. Regarding tech communication 0601, where would this document be found? I've searched the Microsoft support site and these forums.

I've investigated further and it appears to be an issue with the handsets not requesting option 66 in the DHCP discover. We are running R9.0 and so the handsets should be the latest and greatest also. We are raising a case with Alcatel to find a solution.

Will post when more info comes in.
