Hi,
This is really a very good news to know that OXE works even on 28 VDC, but is it without any hardware modification ? :o

Well...
the SMALL Rack (MR1 or Small or S) goes on 12V DC...
the LARGE Rack goes on 36 (batteries + 115/230V AC power supply) or -48VDC power source.

and there are power converters (just like UPSes) that have: 230V in, 230V out, and 12V/24V battery connection. I used them to supply power for my in-house heating system (you know, your own boiler room :D ) and well 4 hours was no problem for this converter plus modern car battery (120 Ah 12V !). So now when i got appliance server plus common hardware:

Code: Select all

230V supply- > converter -> ------------------>Common HW
                     |                     \        \__batteries 36V
                     battery                \
               (car 12V 120 Ah) \_ UPS (MGE, certified wiht OXE)-----appliance servers.
So I've got dual protection, one is 36V for common hw plus UPS that will shutdown appliance servers and second is supply with 12V that could be plug in/plug out without any interruption of running system.

And you may wander WHY the hell i've done something like this? Tried to find converter -48VDC to 230V or -48VDC to ATX with 150W power and no luck. Car batteries are cheap and could last for 4-8 hours. Biggest UPS that could be used in 19" Rack takes 8U and gave me 3 hours of run time..
