tftp/ip mismatch on 4028 bootup

Post by Kinne_DUP »

Hi,

having an OmniPCX common hardware with release 9.0 I want to put all 4028 ip phones in their own vlan. I correctly setup the VLAN into the switches and tested the access with my laptop. I got the IP of the VLAN via DHCP. I could all ping all Alcatel servers and other switches/devices. No problem so far.

Then I booted the 4028, entered the preboot menu with I + # and activated the VLAN with the correct VLAN ID, saved and rebooted.

Now the phone boots, downloads the config, but afterwards it says "tftp1/ip mismatch". Then it waits a while and tris again to connect to the TFTP server. After a while it reboots on its own.

So, what's going wrong? Without the VLAN tag it runs, it also runs with a tagged laptop.
Any ideas?

thanks in advance

I believed you PBX is not in the correct VLAN. Tagged a notebook, and try to telnet or ssh the PBX. Regards.

Hm, the 4028 are about 6 hops / switches away from the subnet of the PBX. IP routing is working between all of them. There's no tagged VLAN between the PBX and the 4028. The tagged VLAN only exists to separate voice and data. It's only on the switch where the 4028 phones are attached.

Hi. I don't know the structure of your network. The normal way is to have the Phones and the PBX in the same VLAN. But there are many ways. However I insist in tagging you notebook and try to telnet / shh the PBX. Regards.

So I tried it again with my laptop. I missed to setup the VLAN on the laptop. So now I really tested it with VLAN on.
It doesn´t work. I don´t get an IP, although I setup the ip helper address.

It seems I have to setup the VLAN within the DHCP server? Well which options do I have to set up?

I have to Alcatel boxes (or cpus), one main and one backup. They belong to different subnets.
The system documentation tells something, that something doesn´t work with boxes in different subnets. But I don´t understand which options to choose in my situtation.

With the 4028, I go into the preboot menu with I and #. There I can set the VLAN, which I did. (What about that strict vlan option, btw?). So I do not have a kind of auto vlan configuration...

Hi. You have auto vlan configuration, it is called AVA. However you will have to work a little more in you network.
It is clear that you have a network misconfiguration. You have to understand that under TCP/IP the layers are independent. So application layer (protocol used by IP Phones) don't mixed with IP layer. Finally if you have routing well configure, no problem will arrive. Whats more VLAN interconnect thanks to a router. In other words, if you IP Phone is in one network and your PBX is in an other network, VLAN would (normally) be different. Check polices, perhaps you are filtering inter-vlan routing.
You should be able to telnet/ssh from the network your IP phones will work. Then if you arrive to this point, we can continue.
Regards.
