GA startup doc
Anyone have a document that describes the startup of a GA?
I am expanding an existing OXE, this includes adding a new GA in the main shelf. This GA is plugged directly into the SLANX4 on the CS, it starts fine, then goes into a bootp process. I then see a remark on the GA console that says "Not a bootp for US" or something strange like that...
I have assigned the IP, mask and gateway under the ethernet parameters of the board. I've never had a problem with these before, so I really don't know much about the startup.
I can't find any documentation on them, here or in the R8.0 docs.
Thanks.

Re: GA startup doc
have you decleared IP address and netmask for GA in mgr?
I have some times situation when GD/GA start only after downloading binary from PC (PC Installer).

Yes, I declared the IP and mask under the ethernet parameters of the board.have you decleared IP address and netmask for GA in mgr?

I also used PC Installer to load the latest binaries which worked fine.
Is bootp the normal way a GA will get it's IP address from the CS and come into service?
Do I need to manage any DHCP for this?

Re: GA startup doc
I thought it got its IP from the backplane then initialised over the LAN

Re: GA startup doc
That's interesting...can anyone confirm this or point me in the direction of a doc for the GA, I can't find a damn thing on it...I thought it got its IP from the backplane then initialised over the LAN
I have a spare GA, I think that is my next step unless someone has any ideas.

Re: GA startup doc
However, if the board has been shipped with no binaries, then you HAVE to load via your PC Installer - otherwise it will just keep rebooting and perform a bootp request each time - end of! So after you have loaded some binaries it will then get its address from the backplane and load the COMPATIBLE binaries from the .../downbin directory on the CS.
The principle of obtaining IP address from backplane is the same as INTIPA in Crystal hardware. But I repeat, final binary download is performed over LAN.
Other guru pls confirm...

Re: GA startup doc
When we load binary with PC Installer - not stop (and not disconnect) PC Installer after binary loading. Wait when normal startup finished.

Re: GA startup doc
I did disconnect pc installer after the GA rebooted. I will wait and see what happens.
Thanks guys.
