Nokia-VSR-VM-15.0.R5 crashes on loginprompt
Re: Nokia-VSR-VM-15.0.R5 crashes on loginprompt
Hey guys,
With combination of posts above and the GNS3 thread I was able to get 15.0R5 booted without crashing
\/__/ \/__/ \/__/
Running 64 bit architecture
Initializing VMM
Virtual address sharing is disabled
Time from clock is MON JUL 16 16:53:00 2018 UTC
Initial DNS resolving preference is ipv4-only
SMP: 2 cores available
Attempting to exec primary configuration file:
'cf3:\config.cfg' ...
Executed 0 lines in 0.0 seconds from file cf3:\config.cfg

I used VirtIO network adapters and these advanced settings in GNS3:
-nographic -smp 2 -enable-kvm -smbios type=1
However, I'm going to do initial staging now (setting up xcm/mda etc) and try some connectivity, will report back on the performance

Re: Nokia-VSR-VM-15.0.R5 crashes on loginprompt
I figured out why I had no service connectivity between SROS 14 and 15.
They actually used the same mac-address on both chassis for that IES..
When I manually configured the mac-addresses, it worked as expected..
Need to see if I can find a way to set base-mac per system...

OK; SMBIOS setting for base MAC, add this in the GNS3 advanced options:
This is a string field in SMBIOS, so as far as I can tell, its not possible to do automatic incrementation based on the system number.
Ideally, it would look like this:
system-base-mac=hh:hh:hh:h<sysnum>:hh:hh where sysnum is the number of devices of that type dropped on the GNS3 project board.
This relates directly to the configuration \bof system-base-mac, so it can also be manually configured in BOF for each VM after first boot, but this requires reboot.
Credit to http://www.eve-ng.net/documentation/how ... -nokia-vsr for details on how to configure various SMBIOS options, like chassis, iom/imm, mda etc.
Also, here is a very good updated document for SROS vSIM:

Re: Nokia-VSR-VM-15.0.R5 crashes on loginprompt
I am having more luck with 15.0.R3 now, on Eve-NG .... It will boot VSR-I or vSIM, but, I cannot do 'show card' or 'show mda'.
When i try 'enable-admin' it says the admin password is not configured, and it won't let me enable-admin.
Where do I set that password?????

Re: Nokia-VSR-VM-15.0.R5 crashes on loginprompt
You do have license?
I had similar issues with VSR-I since my license only covers vSIM.
Never tried Eve-NG, but for me, it works very well now in GNS3

No i dont have a license. Is that needed for Version 15 then?
I get same results in gns3. It boots, i can login with admin admin but almost no commands available and it wont let me enable-admin because enable password is not set....

Re: Nokia-VSR-VM-15.0.R5 crashes on loginprompt
Yes, the only unlicensed SROS you can do something useful with is SROS 13.

Re: Nokia-VSR-VM-15.0.R5 crashes on loginprompt
Hi,
I'm trying to simulate vSIM TiMOS 16.0.R7 byt the router is crashing after reaching login prompt. I'm trying to pass argument through advanced settings but it doesn't work either.
advanced settings : -nographic -smp 2 -enable-kvm -smbios type=1, "TIMOS:slot=A chassis=SR-c12 card=sfm3-7"
Thank you

Re: Nokia-VSR-VM-15.0.R5 crashes on loginprompt
Hi. SFM3-7 is not a valid CPM for the SR-c12 chassis. Change chassis to SR-7, or change card to something valid.simkam wrote: ↑24 May 2019 09:31 Hi,

I'm able to boot SR-c12 with this settings:
-nographic -enable-kvm -uuid <uuid> -smbios type=1,product="TIMOS:slot=A chassis=SR-c12 card=cfm-xp-b mda/1=m5-1gb-sfp-b "
Gives me the following:

Re: Nokia-VSR-VM-15.0.R5 crashes on loginprompt
Just realized you had issues with SROS 16, so I had to try that as well..
Initially, I also had issues with booting default SR-c12 , with the following error:
Fatal Error: CORE0 dead. Rebooting!
Noticed an error during boot:
sysVmBootStringGenerate: ERROR: failed parsing 'mda/1=m5-1gb-sfp-b'
I cant seem to find this card in supported section of SROS 16, so that might be part of the problem.
So, I booted without any MDA specified in the Advanced section:
-nographic -enable-kvm -uuid 4<uuid> -smbios type=1,product="TIMOS:slot=A chassis=SR-c12 card=cfm-xp-b system-base-mac=e4:ec:1F:00:00:00"
And it boots OK.
So, we need to choose a valid MDA, first configure IOM, then see what MDA's that is supported by the OS:
OK, so we add "mda/1=m10-1gb-xp-sfp" to the advanced config section of GNS3.
Voila:
