dhcp client - 2360

Post by kdh »

Hello,

I've set up the dhcp client on a 2360 switch so it would get a "backup" ip config if moved to another site (with a different ip range)

Thing is it gets its ip ONCE and uses it as if it was a fixed ip...

Switch never requests another ip ever... (start, "uplink" disconnected/reconnected) either keeps the same, or 0.0.0.0 "DOWN" if a duplicate ip is found on the network.

Any idea how to make it work like it's supposed to (ie like any other device ever created) ?

Thanks in advance !

What do you mean "like any other device ever created"? This is a switch. The DHCP service has no awareness about a shutdown or disconnect of any port - and this is correct behavior. Other vendors do it the same way, Aginode for example.

Sure, but you'd expect it to request a new ip/lease when you remove the power cable, move it to another location (with a different ip range), and replug it
