release 2.1 to 8 migration
Just taken over a customers maintenance and going to upgrade to release 8.
Now have new hardware delivered via ACTIS.
The site is pretty basis all be it having 300 users.
Without migrating from 2 to 3 and so on can i migrate straight up to 8.
If this is not possible i guess i could export all users and start a new installation ?
Thanks in advance

Re: release 2.1 to 8 migration
You must do a clean installation and create everything from zero, DB changes from 2 (!) to 8 are huge, i'd not expect it to work, and if does a lot of errors may appear not on the importation but later on production.
Ignorance is not the problem, the problem is the one who doesn't want to learn

Re: release 2.1 to 8 migration
When you decleare loaded version "Default loaded file" must be %53.0. And if want to instal release and patch (at the same time) - in dhs3mgr folder you must have release in g1302 subfolder and patch in g13025 subfolder. During declaration you can say - installed version g13025.uk - system will install release g1302 and patch g13025.

sorted cheers
Re: release 2.1 to 8 migration
When I say about name "%53.0" for loaded file I forget to explain - you can see this name in \dhs3mgr\g1302\pcmao\boot_res\bootp\linux - in this place you have folder 53.0.

Re: release 2.1 to 8 migration
Sofware loaded no problem.
Slight issue with passwords now.During installation i pressed no for security options then option 3. The system then asked me to enter a new password for mtcl, i then entered a "new" password. I then kept the default password for swinst and root, no problem. I then built up my data base from scratch and programmed up a 300 user switch. Everything worked fine in the lab.
I then took the cpu to site, shutdown the old cpu3 rel 2.1 system, removed the hard key and placed it onto the new cpu6.
Booted system up, no problem but when i tried to login via v24 using mtcl and my new password, password was not allowed. The root password was ok the swinst was ok too. Would putting the old hardware key onto the new cpu stop me logging on via mtcl ? Alternativly if i can access root directory how can interigate the system and change the mtcl password back to default ?
Thanks again

Re: release 2.1 to 8 migration
if you have access with root login - use command "passwd mtcl" and enter new login for mtcl account.
