DirectRTP and Compressors

Postby dizfunkshinal » Tue Dec 20, 2011 5:10 pm

Hi all!

I have a question that is bugging me. I'm pretty sure I know the answer I just want to be 100% sure.

If the same codec is being used and DirectRTP is being used, are compressors used when a NOE phone calls a SIP end-point?

On the same token, if a call is being delivered from an ITSP over a SIP trunk, and that is being handed off with the same codec, is a compressor used or needed?

All, on common hardware, Running R9.1 or R10.

Scenario one NOEPhone>>-->>G.729A>>-->>SIPEndPoint No Compressors needed?

Scenario two SIPTrunk<>--<>G.729A<>--<>NOEPhone/SIPEndpoint No Compressors needed?

hi

for the first question no..it doesnt uses any comps only if there difirent hardphones such as ua or analog.
for the second if the call from the provider goes to ip phone doesnt use any comps.If it goes to an analog or ua it uses.

Not quite. From my tests in a scenario SIP TG <--> SIP extension/SIP device using same codec and framing (G.711) w/o compressors:
SIP device --> inbound call from SIP TG OK
--->outbound call OK with Routing number NOK with ARS
SIP extension-->inbound NOK
-->outbound NOK (both Routing Number and ARS)

w/ compressors --> all OK

hi dizfunkshinal

i have made some tests and with tot3nkopf help i made some new conclusions.

IPTOUCH>>-->>G.729A>>-->>SIPEXTENSION No Compressors needed? NO

SIP EXTENSION>>-->>G.729A>>-->>IPTOUCH No Compressors needed? YES in ringing phase

IPTOUCH>>-->>G.729A>>-->>IPTOUCH No Compressors needed? NO

with sip device not tested yet from me but as tot3nkopf :
SIP TG <--> SIP extension/SIP device using same codec and framing (G.711) w/o compressors:
SIP device --> inbound call from SIP TG OK
--->outbound call OK with Routing number NOK with ARS
SIP extension-->inbound NOK
-->outbound NOK (both Routing Number and ARS

for analog or UA you need both ways comps.

hope it helps and thank again tot3nkopf for your help.
